The 7th Saudi Arabia Smart Grid (SASG) Conference
The conference enjoyed a huge gathering of developers, researchers, designers, and practitioners who wanted to improve and implement smart grid system. It was held in Jeddah’s Hilton Hotel from December 12th to 14th under the patronage of Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources.
Deputy Minister for Energy Dr. Saleh Al-Awaji, the governor of the Electricity and Cogeneration Regulatory Authority (ECRA) commenced the conference. It was a good opportunity for academics and specialists from the electric industry to come together.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Shehri; Saudi Aramco’s director of energy systems engineering Abdulhamid Al-Omair; in the presence of Prince Dr. Bandar Al-Saud, assistant to the minister of interior for technology affairs also expressed their interest.
In addition, Dr. Abdullah Al-Shehri told the Arab News that ECRA released some regulations on the uses of small solar panels in residential facilities and houses. He gave SEC (Saudi Electric Company) until next June to prepare equipment which ensures the quality of solar panels and meets the regulations.
Once SEC installs the solar panels in houses, mosques, and malls, they will ensure the working and merge with the electricity grid. The excess electricity can be sold back to SEC.
There were over 1500 people, 70 global exhibitors from 33 countries who expressed interest in the pre-conference workshop. In addition, Dr. Saleh Al-Awaji spoke about Women Empowerment. He also expressed his interest about creating opportunities in the energy sector.
The exhibitors exhibited different ideas at their stalls. The people who visited Saudi Aramco’s booth, enjoyed watching a cleaning robotic device dusting solar panels. This was one of the main concerns embarked on when installing solar panels.
Power Plus Cable Co. L.L.C. exhibited a beautiful stall which showcased our solutions offered for renewable energy. Overall, there were 6 interactive sessions, panel sessions and renewable and hybrid solutions, smart grid case studies and advanced technologies.
